The winner of the 2026 Youth Artist Competition is flutist Eva Fazekas.‍ ‍She will performed the Poem for Flute and Orchestra by C. Griffes with the Dexter Community Orchestra on May 9th, 2026.

Eva Fazekas is a senior at Huron High School, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

She comes from a deeply musical family. Her mother is an accomplished pianist, and her brother studies violin at the University of Michigan. Eva began studying piano at age five and added the flute at age eleven when she joined her middle school band.

Eva studies flute with Jaimie Wagner, a highly regarded flute teacher in the Ann Arbor area. Over the years, she has performed with numerous ensembles, including the Detroit Civic Youth Ensemble, Huron Symphony Band (first flute), Huron Symphony Orchestra (first flute), and Michigan All-State Band.

Eva has performed at prestigious venues across the United States and Europe, including Barcelona and Madrid during her 2024 high school orchestra tour of Spain, and at Carnegie Hall in 2026. Just recently, Eva was awarded the Bloomquist Prize with the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Lansing Concert Band. She also enjoys sharing music in more intimate settings, such as senior living communities and private recitals.

Beyond music, Eva enjoys water polo, traveling, and caring for animals. After graduating high school, Eva will pursue a degree in healthcare planning to become a physician assistant, while continuing to keep music an important part of her life.
